First off, Andrew's got a new record coming down the pipe...

Andrew was prepping to record with a huge band, but then a solo show at The Basement in Nashville changed the path. A fella was in the audience who he recognized from NYC - oddly enough, years earlier, they were both fortunate enough to date the same beautiful and talented french actress, who introduced them to eachother. Kyle Fischer (Rainer Maria) had been playing all over creation and was also producing records. After the show Kyle said he wanted to capture the vibe of that very show on record. Andrew thought Kyle's aesthetic would lend itself perfectly, and so hunkered down for a week in a log cabin in upstate New York, and burnished it in Brooklyn with visits by Lara Meyerratken, Caithlin De Marrais, Brad Gunyon, and some of the Balthrop, Alabama boys. It's being mixed by Dave Shiffman as we, er, speak.

It will be available in Spring '08 - so get ready!

BIOGRAPHY

Singer/Songwriter and native New Yorker Andrew Vladeck is a fixture on the New York music scene, recently winning First Place 2007 International Songwriting Competition and multiple Honors from the Billboard Song Contest. He was voted NYC Band of the Month by readers of The Deli Magazine earlier this year before disappearing into the studio to record a new album. Vladeck has been touring from Boston to Chapel Hill and, on the local level, has started performing at the Bowery Ballroom, and has played the East River Bandshell (with David Johansen), as well as the Best of the Living Room and Best of Arlene Grocery concerts.

A former NYC Urban Park Ranger, Vladeck started hot-wiring beat-up instruments because he loved their vibe but wanted more juice to play them at clubs. The result combines the modern with the historical, with his music lying somewhere between indie and folk. At times it’s as if The White Stripes, Jonathan Richman, and Beck fell into a blender and was spit out by Bob Dylan. Vladeck is especially regarded for his well-crafted songs and his unique rock banjo sound. Vladeck is also a member of The Honey Brothers.

Growing up, Vladeck’s parents resurrected chrome-fendered jukeboxes and filled them with garage-sale 45s. He was raised in their shadow but really fell for music by Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, U2, and Public Enemy. It didn't hurt that in High School all his friends were learning "Stairway to Heaven" on guitar, so he did too (wait... that DID hurt). It didn't hurt that Bruce Springsteen physically ran into Vladeck while rushing out of an elevator (at the Midtown gym where a teenage Vladeck was a lifeguard) and a touch of The Boss’s musical mojo rubbed off (or was that sweat?). Vladeck currently lives and often performs not far from the tenements where his grandparents were born in New York and Brooklyn.
