Brooklyn Fun and Recording Good Times
April 5, 2008 - Thanks to everyone for making March Residency at Pete's Candy Store a Success. We had great nights with Caithlin De Marrais (from Rainer Maria), El May (Lara just opened for Feist in Austalia), and Balthrop Alabama.
The L Magazine chose Andrew's last Brooklyn show as THE DAILY PICK, writing, "Andrew Vladeck, armed with banjo, ukulele and harmonica, and the perfect blend of Midwestern thoughtfulness and New Yorker gruff. Some have even compared his post-Americana rock to The Boss. Yowza."
Be sure to join the hepcats in Andrew's Friendclub for the latest gigs and info.
REVIEWS for Andrew Vladeck's Debut CD:
The Deli Magazine ~ by Marie Helene ~ Andrew Vladeck’s self-titled debut album is a highly musical, soulful result of a lot of years of playing and touring. His eclectic family of songs pays the listener in full and no matter how many times he falls to pieces, he’s just fine. Hold a copy to your chest and rock back and forth today!
Indie-Music ~ In the opening track, I could swear he's bearing down on a violin with a saw blade... If you are desperate to hear something completely different, put on this CD... And it will definitely scrape the Top 40 glitter right off your stereo.
Smother ~ Editor’s Pick ~ No way did this album happen in New York City. How honestly could you fuse a ukulele and long-neck banjo that glaze roots and rock with a veneer of Midwest attitude that ingeminates Dylan but without sounding like a cliché. Andrew Vladeck without a doubt has his own voice and will be turning heads fast enough to induce whiplash...
Thanks to everyone for coming out to my tourdates ~ Boston to Chapel Hill, NYC to California, and the residency in Brooklyn - we thank you!
Andrew's alterego as Dory Honey in the rock band with his old chums, The Honey Brothers, sold out the wonderful Bowery Ballroom, in a show with Mendoza Line and Looker, as they did with their friends The Midnight Show and Have Her Home By 10.
Andrew's show in North Carolina was a critic's pick in The Independent Weekly. At SXSW in Austin, Andrew had a blast with members of Austin's Handsome Charlies who sat in with Andrew at his show. Recently, Andrew and his band ~ dressed as either French Sailors... or mimes... played a standing room only show at the Mercury Lounge. Vladeck's 3-gig stint in Nashville was featured in the Nashville Rage. The Third and Lindsley show was a Critic's Pick in the Nashville Scene. Shows included The New Faces Series at The Basement. Meanwhile The Honey Brothers sold out NYU with Wolf Parade. Andrew's last solo tour of the Northeast last summer wrapped up at NYC's prestigious BOWERY BALLROOM w/ Pernice Brothers. While on tour his shows were featured in The Hartford Advocate, The Providence Journal, and The New Hampshire Telegraph. Radio shows at WTBU Boston University, WBTN Southern Vermont College, and WMHC Mt. Holyoke College and airplay at many others only helped to make this tour a success.
